KATHMANDU, Aug 31: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung announced that 5G testing will begin in Kathmandu Valley and Pokhara Valley by mid-February this year.
Speaking at a program organized in Kathmandu to mark the 25th anniversary and silver jubilee of the Film Development Board, Minister Gurung said the government is in the final stage of implementing the Digital Nepal Framework. He said that the framework would soon be endorsed by the cabinet and brought into implementation.
Speed up testing

Under the Digital Nepal Policy, the government plans to expand the use of technology in eight areas including tourism, education, good governance, and disaster management, Gurung said.
Highlighting the importance of fifth-generation telecommunication technology, he remarked that Artificial Intelligence (AI) development and application require 5G. “For effective use of AI, 5G is essential. Therefore, we will start 5G testing in Kathmandu Valley and Pokhara Valley by Magh this year,” he said.
Gurung added that the government aims to complete nationwide 5G expansion within the coming year. He also revealed that the government is preparing to establish IT data centers and AI hubs in all seven provinces.
He further noted that incidents of banking fraud have been increasing, and the government has already begun the process of drafting necessary laws to curb such crimes.
