51 Nepalis die in UAE in two months

Causes of death include workplace incidents, heart attacks, other cardiovascular-related illnesses and road accidents, the embassy said.

KATHMANDU, Sept 23: At least 51 Nepali migrant workers lost their lives in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) over the past two months, according to data from the Embassy of Nepal in Abu Dhabi.



The deaths were recorded in the first two months of the current Fiscal Year (FY) 2082/83, with 32 deaths reported in Shrawan (mid-July to mid-August) and 19 in Bhadra (mid-August to mid-September). Causes of death include road accidents, workplace incidents, heart attacks, and other cardiovascular-related illnesses, the embassy said.

The embassy figures show a slight decline compared to the same period last FY, when 62 Nepalis died in the UAE. Throughout FY 2081/82, the total number of Nepali fatalities reached 312, averaging 26 deaths per month. In the preceding FY 2080/81, the figure stood at 231.
