KATHMANDU, Aug 24: Sagarmatha Gas Udyog, a bottling company that sells cooking gas under the brand name of Sagar Gas, has destroyed more than 3,030 of its outdated cylinders.
According to the company, it destroyed the damaged cylinders in its refilling plant located in Banepa Municipality-4 of Kavrepalanchok district on Sunday. The cylinders were reported to have expired and failed the hydraulic test.

The cylinders were destroyed in a joint effort of the company along with Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC), the Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology (NBSM), local authorities and consumer rights activists.
Sawarmal Agarwal, board of director of Sagarmatha Gas Udyog, said the disposal of cylinders was aimed at providing good and reliable LP gas cylinders in the market. "We have destroyed the cylinders that failed the hydraulic test in compliance with the guidelines of the NOC and the NBSM," he added.
According to Sagarmatha Gas, it refills 7,500 cylinders daily, while it has been circulating a total of 450,000 cylinders across the country. "We destroy 3,000 to 3,500 units of cylinders every year. This time, mainly the cylinders that were damaged by the floods were destroyed," said Agarwal.
