Coomaraswamy in Nepal

KATHMANDU: The Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Children and Armed Conflict, Radhika Coomaraswamy, is in Nepal on a six-day visit. Coomaraswamy is here to ascertain the impact of conflict on children and will focus, during the visit, on the issue of release and reintegration of former child soldiers as well as the current use of children by armed groups, a statement issued by the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) said.  “In line with the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, the Special Representative will advocate for the immediate release of 2,973 Maoist army elements disqualified as minors remaining in Maoist cantonment,” the statement added.
