KATHMANDU, July 11: Around 260 megawatts of electricity have been disconnected from Nepal's national transmission system following recent floods in Rasuwa, according to Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka.

Addressing the National Assembly, Minister Khadka informed that key hydropower projects along the Trishuli River Corridor were damaged by the flood, disrupting the supply. Affected projects include the 111 MW Rasuwa Gadhi, 22 MW Chilime, 21 MW Trishuli and 14 MW Devighat hydropower plants.

Preliminary assessments suggest the flooding was not caused by rainfall but likely by a glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) in the upper catchment area. Satellite data from Sentinel Asia indicated that the glacier-fed lake in the Lende River area, near the Nepal–Tibet border, had shrunk from 0.75 to 0.60 square kilometers just before the incident.
