No best employee award for eighth consecutive year

KATHMANDU, Sept 7--The government is observing Civil Service Day today by addressing nearly 68,000 civil servants, often referred to as the permanent government.
According to Kali Prasad Parajuli, spokesperson for the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, this year’s slogan is “Professional and Creative Civil Service.” Civil servants celebrate the day in memory of September 7, 1955 (Bhadra 22, 2012 BS), when the first civil service law was introduced.
Parajuli said this is the 22nd Civil Service Day, and it has been observed annually for the past 21 years. A main organizing committee led by Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal has been formed to oversee the celebration.
Several subcommittees under it are conducting events including health camps, tree plantation, blood donation, friendly football matches, interactions, exhibitions, rallies, and lighting programs to mark the occasion in a grand way.
On Civil Service Day, the government honors one outstanding employee, 10 staff with the Excellent Civil Service Award, and 30 more with Civil Service Awards. The Civil Service Award Recommendation Committee, chaired by the Chief Secretary, selects the awardees.
