PARSA, June 30: The number of drug trafficking cases has increased in Parsa, with 114 cases registered as of June 26 in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2024/2025.
The district’s 107-kilometer open border with neighboring India is cited as a key factor contributing to the rise in drug smuggling activities.

According to the Superintendent of Police (SP) Gautam Mishra, chief of the District Police Office (DPO), Parsa, 151 individuals—both Nepali and foreign nationals—have been arrested on charges of their involvement in drug trafficking during the same period.
“Ninety-eight Nepali men and six Nepali women have been arrested,” said Mishra. “Additionally, 45 foreign men and two foreign women were also apprehended for their involvement in the drug trade.”
The DPO, Parsa, has seized 1,561 kilograms of cannabis and 625 kilograms of hashish so far this FY. It also confiscated 384 grams of brown heroin and 1.5 kilograms of opium.
Other seized drugs include 1,433 ampoules of Phenergan, 4,499 ampoules of Diazepam, 4,464 ampoules of Nurofen, and 289,274 tablets of Tramadol.
