KATHMANDU, Sep 11: A group of Gen Z youths have staged protests against the proposal to appoint former Chief Justice Sushila Karki as the head of the interim government.

Gathering outside the Nepali Army headquarters, the protesters said Karki should not be appointed to lead the interim government. They argued that the Gen Z movement was not launched to make a septuagenarian former CJ the head of the government.

Many also accused her of being pro-Indian. On Wednesday, she told an Indian media outlet that she was close to India and to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The protesters further expressed anger at the presence of Indian media at the site, chanting slogans such as “Go back India.” They complained that Indian journalists were allowed access to the army headquarters while Nepali media were barred.

The army had been trying to disperse the youths from the area.
