KMC fines water supplier over contaminated supply to central office

The KMC has thus terminated the contract with the supplier, CN Enterprises, for the substandard supply of essential drinking water.

KATHMANDU, June 11: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has slapped a fine of Rs 200,000 on the supplier after coliform bacteria were detected in the drinking water being used in the KMC's central office. 



The KMC has thus terminated the contract with the supplier, CN Enterprises, for the substandard supply of essential drinking water.

According to the Chief of KMC's Department of Agriculture and Livestock, Nurnidhi Neupane, the decision to scrap the deal with the drinking water supplier was taken at the chief administrator level.


The laboratory examination of the drinking water in the KMC office has found the coliform bacteria, he explained. 


The coliform bacteria are bacteria that are always present in the digestive tracts of animals, including humans and are found in their wastes.
