KATHMANDU, Sept 21: The Human Rights and Peace Society has demanded that former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and then-Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, among others, be brought under legal scrutiny.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the society expressed concern over recent political developments and the loss of lives and property during the Gen-Z movement, stressing that peace is not possible without good governance.

“The country has suffered heavy losses due to corruption and misgovernance. We demand legal action against former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, then-Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, and others responsible,” the statement read. It further urged authorities to identify and punish those involved in arson and vandalism of public property, heritage sites, press institutions, and private property during the protests.

The society also emphasized the need to free the police and administration from political influence and called for individuals appointed to constitutional and judicial bodies on partisan grounds to step aside.

Additionally, the society urged the interim government to act as a guardian of all citizens, safeguard the constitution and achievements made so far, and ensure an independent, fair, and fearless election at the earliest, followed by a smooth transfer of power to an elected government.
