KATHMANDU, Sept 4: Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Ram Hari Khatiwada has been elected unopposed as the chair of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee.
According to a statement issued by Parliament Secretariat General Secretary Padma Prasad Pandey, only Khatiwada filed his candidacy within the allotted time from 2 to 4 pm on Thursday.
The post had remained vacant since September 10, when Ishwori Devi Neupane resigned as chair of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee. Khatiwada filed his candidacy for the position thereafter.
Earlier, Khatiwada had resigned as chair of the State Affairs Committee following controversy over irregularities in the provision of a cooling-off period in the Civil Service Bill.
