KATHMANDU, July 26: Patan Hospital located in Lalitpur Metropolitan City-5 is all set to be upgraded to 1,200 beds, double of the capacity at present.
This hospital, which is being operated under the Patan Institute of Health Sciences (PIHS), will be expanded and converted into a specialist hospital with state-of-the-art services and infrastructure. The construction cost for the expanded hospital is estimated at Rs 10.73 billion. The project is expected to be completed in three years.
The proposed expansion of the hospital will have a total of 10 floors, including two basements and a ground floor.
The hospital building will expand on 72,920.69 square meters and the height will be 35 meters. To be spread over a total land area of 26,054.84 square meters, this hospital has been designed to serve patients from across the country.
The expanded structure will have a parking area of 11,889 square meters. The parking lot will have capacity to park 500 two-wheelers and 300 cars.
After the upgradation, specialised services will be available in gynecology, obstetrics, pediatrics, mental illness, dentistry, ear, nose and throat, skin and venereal diseases, cancer services, radiology, pathology, microbiology, physiotherapy, clinical pharmacology, emergency services, geriatric services, communicable and non-communicable disease services, nutrition, counseling and rehabilitation, newborn care, ICU for critically ill patients, NICU, CCU, OT, MRI, and dialysis, according to the PIHS.
Similarly, the new structure will help strengthen educational programs including MBBS, BDS, MD and BSc Nursing. The design of the building will be made friendly to the differently-abled people. There will be facilities such as wheelchair-accessible entrances, lifts, special toilets, signage, and child-friendly treatment rooms.
