NHRC raises concerns over condition of those still under army custody

KATHMANDU, Sept 16 : Officials of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) held talks with Chief of Army Staff Ashokraj Sigdel regarding the recent Gen-Z protests, the evolving security situation, and the condition of individuals currently under the protection of the Nepal Army.

According to NHRC Spokesperson Dr Tikaram Pokharel, the NHRC advised the army to act strictly within the framework of democracy, human rights and the rule of law while ensuring peace and security.

The NHRC has stated that it is actively monitoring the human rights situation following the protests and the changing political scenario. It has been in contact with those kept under army protection to assess their security and health conditions.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the NHRC said it has also been holding regular meetings with Gen-Z representatives, families of the deceased, the injured, other affected individuals and children impacted by the events.
