KATHMANDU, Aug 15: The Nepali Congress (NC) has annulled the party membership recently granted to Devendra Yadav, a fugitive accused in the murder of Thaman BK. According to the party, Yadav is currently subject to ongoing criminal proceedings, making him ineligible for membership.

In a statement issued on Friday, Party Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Paudel explained, “Upon review, it was found that the individual was under criminal investigation in connection with a murder case. Therefore, the membership previously conferred upon him has been revoked.”

Yadav was granted NC membership on Thursday morning, when party leaders were holding a political discussion at the office of NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba. During the meeting, some members brought Yadav into the president’s chamber and requested his immediate induction into the party. At their request, President Deuba granted Yadav membership on the spot.

Following revelations about Yadav’s legal status, the NC leadership has called for the Home Ministry’s attention to ensure he is brought under legal proceedings. The statement also noted that the party is seeking clarification from the individuals who facilitated Yadav’s entry into the party.

Armed Police Force Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Thaman BK was killed in Mahottari on September 11, 2015 during the Madhes movement in 2015. A case of premeditated murder was registered against 28 individuals in the Mahottari District Court on August 3, 2018.
