KATHMANDU, Sep 19 – Kulman Ghising, who currently heads three ministries — the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, and the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Urban Development — has called for the termination of contracts for projects that have been neglected or left unattended.
Minister Ghising has directed the secretaries and departmental heads of all three ministries to immediately prepare and submit a list of such deteriorating projects. While reviewing the status of ongoing development projects, Ghising emphasized that the government will not allow contractors who fail to perform to leave projects in an abandoned state.
“We can no longer afford to wait for contractors to act. We need to identify and evaluate the projects that are being delayed or are not meeting quality standards,” said Minister Ghising, directing the secretaries. He further stated that contracts for such projects will be canceled and they will be re-tendered under a new procurement process.
Minister Ghising also urged all concerned stakeholders to work with urgency to complete the construction of the new House of Representatives building inside the Singha Durbar complex. The contract for the federal parliament building was signed in September 2019 with a target completion period of three years. As of now, approximately 86 percent of the work has been completed.
