Heavy rainfall likely in two provinces today, public urged to stay vigilant

KATHMANDU, July 19: The monsoon winds are currently affecting most parts of the country, and the monsoon trough lies near its average position, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM).

At present, the hilly regions of the country are experiencing partly to generally cloudy weather, while the rest of the country remains partly cloudy. One or two places in Koshi, Bagmati, and Karnali Provinces are experiencing moderate rainfall, as per the DHM.

This afternoon, the weather across the country will remain partly to generally cloudy. There is a possibility of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning at a few places in the hilly regions of the country, including Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Sudurpaschim Provinces, as well as at a few places in the remaining areas of the country. Light to moderate rain or snowfall is also likely at a few locations in the high-hilly and Himalayan regions of the country.

According to the DHM, tonight will also remain partly to generally cloudy across the country. There is a possibility of light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning at many places in Koshi Province, at a few places in Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces, and isolated places elsewhere.

Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two locations in Koshi and Gandaki Provinces. Light to moderate rain or snowfall is also possible at a few locations in the high-hilly and mountainous regions.

Due to the rainfall, there is a risk of landslides, floods, and debris flow. Urban and Terai areas may face a risk of inundation. Water levels in large and small rivers and streams may rise. Daily life, agriculture, health services, tourism, construction works near rivers, roads, and air transport may be affected. Windstorms may also cause partial disruptions.

The DHM has urged the public and concerned authorities to remain alert and adopt precautionary measures.
