KATHMANDU, Sept 9: Protesters attempted to vandalize the Budhanilkantha residence of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Tuesday, as the youth-led Generation Z movement continued to escalate in the Kathmandu Valley on Tuesday.
Police had blocked demonstrators earlier in the morning at Krishnapati Chowk, but the crowd grew larger and managed to push toward Deuba’s residence, leading to an attempted attack. Witnesses said the number of protesters in the area far outnumbered the police presence.
The Gen Z protests, fueled by frustration over corruption, inequality, and the government’s ban on social media platforms, have rocked the capital for a second consecutive day. On Monday, police opened fire on demonstrators in Baneshwor, killing at least 17 youths in the Valley and at least two more outside, triggering outrage and political resignations.
