HUMLA, July 29: Continuous rainfall triggered another flood in Limi, located in the northern part of Namkha Rural Municipality-6 of Humla district.

According to the District Administration Office (DAO), preliminary reports indicate that the flood has swept away a wooden bridge. However, no human casualties have been reported so far.

Chief District Officer (CDO) Narayan Pandey stated that the heavy rainfall since early Sunday morning had likely caused the water level in the river running through Limi to rise, resulting in flooding.

“We received preliminary information from the ward chairperson that the flood has washed away a small wooden bridge over the river. But there are no reports of human casualties or major physical damage,” CDO Pandey stated.

He added that settlements located downstream are not currently at risk. Rainfall was also recorded in the district headquarters, Simkot, since early morning, which is believed to have contributed to the flood.

The Limi area is highly vulnerable to floods and landslides. Earlier, on May 14, a devastating flood and landslide displaced 33 people from 19 families in Til village.

They are still living under tarpaulin shelters. Repeated natural disasters have made life increasingly difficult for the residents of Limi.

CDO Pandey stated that detailed information regarding the incident is yet to be received and that the administration is continuously monitoring the situation.
