KATHMANDU, June 29: Marking National Paddy Day on Asar 15 (June 29), President Ramchandra Paudel and First Lady Sabita Paudel took part in a symbolic rice planting event organized at the presidential residence, Sheetal Niwas.
Speaking at the event, President Paudel emphasized the need to modernize agriculture and move beyond subsistence farming toward commercialization. He stated that agriculture should be promoted not just as a means of survival but as a viable profession.
Highlighting the importance of honoring all forms of labor, including farming, the President said his participation was a symbolic gesture to encourage paddy cultivation and uphold the dignity of agricultural work. He also stressed the need to recognize and respect farmers as the backbone of the economy and as “providers of grain.”
Following the planting ceremony, a traditional dahi-chiura (curd and beaten rice) feast was held to mark the occasion.
