KATHMANDU, June 2: Transport entrepreneurs halted all forms of public transportation across the country starting today.

On Sunday evening, organizations including the Central Federation of Public Transport Nepal, the National Federation of Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs, the Transport Entrepreneurs Federation Nepal, the Nepal Independent Transport Workers’ Organization, and the Nepal Transport Workers’ Union issued a joint statement announcing their decision to park all public vehicles in garages and launch a protest from Monday. They said the government’s failure to address their demands had forced them to begin the protest.

They decided to suspend all public transport vehicles-including buses, tempos, trucks, minibuses, jeeps, and microbuses-starting today, except those operating in emergency situations.

The Kathmandu Valley has felt the impact of the decision since early this morning. After transport entrepreneurs halted public transportation, passengers could not reach their destinations and are stranded on the roads.
