RAUTAHAT, July 25: A municipal representative died of electrocution while irrigating a paddy field in Rautahat. Chandeshwar Baitha, 55, of Nankar Pathara in Maulapur Municipality-7, died on Thursday after being electrocuted in a field.

Baitha was a member of the executive committee and the spokesperson of Maulapur Municipality.

Baitha, who also engaged in farming, was electrocuted while trying to irrigate his paddy field. According to reports, his son Kishan Baitha found him unconscious in the field while searching for him. He was rushed to a hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

A social worker and dedicated public servant, Baitha is survived by two sons and a daughter. His wife had passed away earlier. His father, 75-year-old Kamal Baitha, and his mother are still alive. Upon hearing the news of their son’s death, Baitha’s mother lost consciousness, according to Dilip Sah, a fellow executive member of Maulapur Municipality and a neighbor.

Mayor Rina Kumari Sah said the sudden death of a hardworking and dedicated representative like Baitha has caused an irreparable loss to the municipality. She stated that the entire Maulapur is in mourning.

He had a deep interest in the history, culture, and archaeology of Maulapur and was also active in social service. Politically active since the time of the Maoist insurgency, he had held various positions and was recently affiliated with Prabhu Sah’s Aam Janata Party.

With this, three people have died of electrocution in two days in Rautahat. On Wednesday, two other individuals died of electric shock in separate incidents while irrigating fields — one in Jamuniya of Katahariya Municipality and another in Bishunpurwa Manpur of Madhav Narayan Municipality.
