India sees 14-fold spike in COVID-19 cases: 21 dead, over 3,000 infected in two days

KATHMANDU, June 2: India has recorded a sharp rise in active COVID-19 cases, reaching 3,783, with Kerala reporting the highest number at 1,400.

The Ministry of Health reported only 257 cases on May 22. In just nine days, infections have surged 14-fold, according to Dainik Bhaskar. Over the past two days, COVID-19 claimed 21 lives—seven each in Maharashtra and Kerala.

In Bengaluru, a 63-year-old man who had received both vaccine doses and a booster shot died of COVID-19 on May 31.

In response, the Karnataka government urged the public to wear masks in crowded areas, maintain physical distancing, and practice good hygiene. It also advised the individuals with symptoms like fever, cough, chest pain, or difficulty breathing to get tested immediately.
