KATHMANDU, May 29: The government has introduced a policy where only a 1 percent customs duty will be imposed on the import of equipment required for industries producing and assembling charging stations to promote electric vehicles (EVs).
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel announced this while presenting the budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2025/26 in a joint session of parliament on Thursday.
He said, “For establishing industries that produce and assemble charging machines for electric vehicles, only a 1 percent customs duty will be levied on the import of necessary equipment, and no other tax or duty will apply. Additionally, these industries will receive a five-year income tax exemption.”
With the increasing use of EVs, the expansion of charging stations is also underway in the country. Currently, Yatri Energy is building charging stations in Nepal.
