Forex Update: US dollar holds steady

KATHMANDU, Aug 16: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has published the foreign exchange rates for 22 currencies for Saturday. The U.S. dollar remained unchanged from Friday, with the buying rate fixed at Rs. 139.79 and the selling rate at Rs. 140.39.

The euro traded at Rs. 163.39 for buying and Rs. 164.09 for selling, while the pound sterling climbed slightly to Rs. 189.57 and Rs. 190.38. The Swiss franc also stood strong at Rs. 173.47 (buying) and Rs. 174.21 (selling).

Among other major currencies, the Australian dollar was set at Rs. 91.05 and Rs. 91.44, the Canadian dollar at Rs. 101.37 and Rs. 101.80, and the Singapore dollar at Rs. 109.01 and Rs. 109.48. The Japanese yen stood at Rs. 9.51 (buying) and Rs. 9.55 (selling) per 10 units, while the Chinese yuan was fixed at Rs. 19.47 and Rs. 19.56.

In the Gulf region, the Saudi riyal was set at Rs. 37.26 and Rs. 37.42, the Qatari riyal at Rs. 38.35 and Rs. 38.52, the Kuwaiti dinar at Rs. 457.59 and Rs. 459.56, the Bahraini dinar at Rs. 370.77 and Rs. 372.36, and the Omani Riyal at Rs. 363.09 and Rs. 364.64.

For South and East Asian currencies, the Thai baht stood at Rs. 4.31 and Rs. 4.33, the UAE Dirham at Rs. 38.06 and Rs. 38.22, the Malaysian ringgit at Rs. 33.18 and Rs. 33.32, and the South Korean won at Rs. 10.07 and Rs. 10.11 per 100 units. The Swedish krona was fixed at Rs. 14.62 and Rs. 14.69, the Danish krone at Rs. 21.89 and Rs. 21.99, and the Hong Kong dollar at Rs. 17.88 and Rs. 17.95.

The Indian currency remained stable, with Rs. 160.00 for buying and Rs. 160.15 for selling per 100 units.

NRB has stated that exchange rates may be revised at any time, and commercial banks may set slightly different rates. The updated official rates are available on the central bank’s website.
