KATHMANDU, May 27: Authorities have released Annie Kunwar after deciding not to pursue legal action over her alleged involvement in a violent pro-monarchist protest in Tinkune.
The Kathmandu District Police Range had submitted a report recommending charges against her. However, the District Government Attorney's Office concluded that there was insufficient evidence to support her involvement and declined to file a case.
Police released Kunwar from custody last Sunday following the decision. Investigators had detained her after a video surfaced on social media showing her descending from the building where journalist Suresh Rajak was found dead.
The protest, led by Durga Prasai on March 28, resulted in the deaths of two people and left 20 others injured by police gunfire.
